The QCF Level 7 Chartered Wealth Manager qualification is a postgraduate level qualification designed for wealth managers, discretionary investment managers, financial advisers and private bankers. It is the flagship qualification of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and is considered to be the premier standard for private client wealth managers.
The qualification consists of three papers which ideally, should be completed consecutively, in the order below. Find out about the training we offer relating to each paper:
- CISI Financial Markets Training
- CISI Portfolio Construction Theory Training
- CISI Applied Wealth Management Training
Once candidates have passed all three units, they are eligible to apply for the CISI’s Chartered Wealth Manager title. Each paper is a three-hour narrative exam.

Study Time & Timeframes
The study time required for the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification will vary as it will depend on the candidate’s background and study approach. The CISI suggests that candidates dedicate roughly 200 hours of study time for each unit. Exams are held twice a year, so candidates should plan a self-study schedule including revision and exam preparation accordingly.
In addition, training such as Glascow’s eight day comprehensive online tutor-led course or two day revision course, could be included in the overall study time.
If a candidate passes each exam first time, the minimum period the qualification will take to complete is approximately 18 months assuming each exam is taken in succession with 6 months required for each unit.
Exam Schedule
The Chartered Wealth Manager exams are held twice a year, usually in June and November/December. Exam dates and booking details for each of the three CWM units can be located on the CISI website with Level 7 exam fees and learning materials listed separately.
It is crucial for candidates to provide themselves with the best opportunity to pass the exams on the first attempt, as the investment of time needed to complete all three papers is substantial. This is where Glascow’s expert training and support with exam technique can really pay off.
How to Enrol
To pursue the Chartered Wealth Manager Qualification, candidates must meet the CISI’s minimum entry requirements, which typically include holding a suitable QCF Level 4 financial services qualification, such as the CISI’s Investment Advice Diploma, or having relevant industry experience.
Candidates can make use of study resources provided by the CISI, such as course materials, revision guides, and past exam papers. This is also a good time to enroll in a full or revision study program in the lead up to the exam, offered by a training provider, such as ourselves, Glascow Consulting.
